Just got around to playing this after seeing the announcement trailer on the NESDev Discord server -- really fun game! The premise is clever and the writing made me laugh aloud a few times. Seeing all these different characters "out of character" and mingling with one another was a real treat too
What a fun and amazing game idea for the NES- a Murder Mystery using classic NES characters and scenes! I've just finished it and had a blast. I've recommended it to all my retro-enthusiast friends :)
BTW, I'm not sure what happened with the boulder bit as I didn't see anything moving it. Maybe some expose would help? (yes I'm dumb and it's likely it just went right over my head). Or maybe it was a technical limitation and there was no more room for assets. Or maybe it was that 8 sprites per scanline limit ;)
For the boulder bit... Let's see, best way to explain it without spoilers? I would say give the original game featuring the antagonist a try... I was doing my best to copy that, maybe not so successfully π
I can tell you there arenβt very many games Iβve beaten in my life and yours is one of them. I mean, itβs not super long as games go but in the world of ADHD gaming itβs an impressive feat. Again, thanks!
Just got to finishing up the story. It was so much longer than I expected when I first jumped in. That was absolutely amazing. So many references and cameos - I loved it. I didn't realize there was an unused track in the NES game that you put to use in here a few times - neat!
Also - you probably know, but Zophar's over on Twitch these days as Zophar1. He's a really awesome dude.
awesome... yes the game is fully compatible with the original NES, it uses a UNROM-512 mapper on original hardware so the flash carts from NESMaker/INL or Broke Studio will work...
really glad you enjoyed it! had a lot of fun making it definitely
